SALLIE'S COTTAGE BY THE SEA

At the age of 7, Sallie
started painting and has never stopped. When she was in the fourth
grade, she started studying with instructors at the Toledo Museum of Art
and continued there through her high school years. She went on to study
art at
the University of Toledo
and Ohio University.
She met and married Joe
Grau and worked with him in their family owned business. For the next 25
years, Sallie painted and Joe did calligraphy. During those years,
Sallie and Joe sold their art to many gift stores and also sold their
artwork in their own store for 8 years. They also exhibited in many fine
art shows throughout the eastern United States.
After Joe's death, Sallie
painted on clothing and later on hand-made paper. Using her own special
technique, Sallie continues to perfect her painting, giving each picture
the soft look of pastel.
Sallie has painted on many
different surfaces from boards to lampshades to furniture. She still
prefers working with hand-made papers for the soft look that she
perfected over the years and for which she is best known.
Sallie now resides in
Lakeland, Florida, where she has her own studio. She continues to do art
shows, mainly on the West Coast of Florida.
