MAYA
Maya's
collection of work, though contemporary and abstract in form, contains a
distinct old-world flavor. It is a melting pot of current colors and
trend combined with ancient, primitive concepts.
Favoring bold designs and color, Maya's works are both exciting and
subtle. Earthy hues are balanced against bright accents of color. The
smoothness of the papers are interrupted with gravely textured artist's
stucco. Rich touches of metallic paints accent and highlight.
Hand-molded clay embellishes and adorns some pieces.
Not confined by one medium or style, Maya experiments endlessly in her
studio. Piles of sketches, ceramic jars of brushes, and tubes of paint
sit on the deep window sills, nearly obscuring the view of sagebrush
outside.
Maya's art is painted in acrylic, watercolor, and gouache on watercolor
paper. She personally creates her own stamps, carved linoleum, and clay
reliefs.
The diversity that is Maya's art clearly reflects her well-traveled
life. Born on the Texas/Mexico border, Maya has lived in seven states
and two countries. For now, she has settled on the windy, semiarid, high
plateaus on the Wyoming border, where she strives to create new images
that describe the complexities of human and nature.
