ISABELLA BRANDT
For nearly twenty years, Isabella Brandt
strove for the ultimate in painting realism.
Then one day she had a brush with cancer and her view of the world changed
dramatically. So did her art. Since then, Isabella has been caught up in living
in the moment and that enthusiasm and raw energy has become the new focus for
her art.
Isabella’s new direction in art embraces impressionism, fauvism, and folk art.
Bold lines and bright, playful colors swim among thick, impasto brushstrokes of
acrylic paint. You can see the influence of Matisse, Van Gogh, and Maurice de
Vlaminch.
“Giving up the constraints of staid realism for the joy of spontaneous
expression has been very liberating,” says Ms. Brandt. “I’m no longer bound by
what is and can explore what could be. I can share with others how I see things.
Instead of simply re-creating scenes that everyone already sees onto paper or
canvas, I now create images in ways people may not have seen before.”
After a moment of reflection, in which her aged cat begs to be picked up and
petted, Isabella adds, “I hope that people are getting as much joy out of
looking at my art as I have gotten in painting it.”
